S O   M U C H   F R U I T.  Hello baking day and finding all sorts of ways to turn the harvest into a #redtintreat. The Yummiest Fall Spiced Vanilla Pear Bread

The kids got home from school today, sniffed the air and said what's in the Red Tins? And this my friends makes the baking that much sweeter. Does your family have a special tradition that grew out of your everyday life? It's fun to find them, and then EMBRACE them! It's how our Red Tin Treat Tradition started and it's now one of my favorites.

Several years ago I found these red metal tins and started using them whenever I made biscuits, or scones, cookies or bread. Then one day, the kids came home from school and said, 'Are there any Red Tin Treats?'

Woah! I didn't even realize it had become a thing until then! Welcome home #redtintreat tradition. We're so glad you joined our family.

And now our Red Tin Treats for the Holidays ECookBook is avaiable! Welcome to baking up traditions with us.

Spiced Vanilla Pear Bread

  • 4 medium sized Pears, pealed and finely chopped (equals about 2 cups of fruit)

  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

  • 1 and 1/2 cups granulated sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

  • 1/2 teaspoon all spice

  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves

  • 2 cups all purpose flour

    • this recipe works well with gluten free 1-to-1 flour as well!

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease one loaf pan and set aside.

Add the chopped pears, vanilla, oil, sugar and eggs to a large mixing bowl and blend until the pears are mashed.

Add in the baking soda, salt and spices and blend. Then add in the flour and mix until fully incorporated.

Pour into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 45-55 minutes, or until your knife comes out clean.  The baking time varies depending on how juicy your pears are, so check consistently from 45 minutes on.

**this tastes best when you're straight off the school bus ;)

Want to make it an even yummier bread? Add a Molasses Crumble to the top (this basically turns it into cake ;)

  • 1/2 cup butter, room temperature

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1 Tablespoon Molasses

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1 rounded cup flour

**this crumble topping is enough for 2 loaf pans. You can freeze half of it and add it to the next bread you make!

Cheers to creating a home that welcomes your family back at the end of the day. Whether you're baking these in the evening, the morning or during the day there is just something about coming home to a house that greets you with an open red tin that makes you feel welcome. Happy Baking!
